Meaning
Ansuz bears the name of Odin — literally “god” in Old Norse. It is the rune of breath, speech, creative power flowing through the throat. Its asymmetrical glyph resembles an open mouth, a vibration escaping, a channel by which something greater than oneself finds voice.
When Ansuz appears, it speaks of inspiration and messages arriving. It’s not ordinary talk but that which comes from afar — sudden insight, clarity falling from the sky, understanding breaking through. It is the muse whispering, revelation waiting to be said. Reversed Ansuz can also reveal bad faith — yours or another’s. Malicious words, deceit, manipulation by speech. This is the rune of intentional obfuscation, false inspiration leading in a wrong direction. It may herald confusing news, rumors, gossip polluting the environment.
This reversal isn’t condemnation but an invitation to clarify, verify sources, not accept discourse without examination. It asks: what’s being said, is it sincere? What you say, does it come from truth? Where is the lie hiding?
